We are excited to announce the opening of Mind Ramps, an innovative think tank and consulting firm dedicated to anti-ableism and a more inclusive future. Adam and I have had an idea for a joint effort (beyond three kids and our life together) for quite some time and it’s now a reality. We founded our LLC in October of 2022 and have since been preparing to open our virtual doors! We are proud to be a disability-owned and disability-led business.
It’s been interesting to think of ourselves as small business owners. I very much want to support small businesses but often find their physical places of business inaccessible for me in my wheelchair. In our town, small businesses of are concentrated in the downtown area and I can only access around a quarter of them. We knew our small business had to be different. We don’t have a physical space but maintain this comparison to remind us and collaborating partners of the importance of accessibility in all that we do. Most of the barriers we face as disabled people are not physical. They are in the minds and beliefs of people and the systems within which we try to reach our goals. Our work will aim to build Mind Ramps in these spaces.
We’ve started this work long before the launch of Mind Ramps. Adam has a degree and background in Therapeutic Recreation and consultation about accessibility and adaptive sports. I have a PhD in clinical psychology and am a current faculty member and Associate Director of the University of Cincinnati Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. You can learn more about us here and let us know if you have ideas. We’ve already learned a lot through this process and welcome your ideas for what’s needed in this space. We’d love to collaborate with you and others for an anti-ableist future.
We’ll use this space (our Mind Ramps blog) to provide a monthly recap of updates on speaking events, writing, and other endeavors. You can check out my blog on Medium for examples of blog-style content. We are also happy to send samples of various styles of past work. Just reach out via the Connect page. Thanks for joining us on this adventure!
